European Commission (Migration and Home Affairs)

The European Commission is the executive body of the European Union, based in Brussels. Through its Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs, it develops and oversees EU policy on migration, asylum, border management, and internal security. In this area, the Commission proposes legislation, coordinates among member states, administers funding instruments, and works with EU agencies on operational matters. It has put forward initiatives including reforms to the Common European Asylum System and the Pact on Migration and Asylum. The Commission proposes and oversees implementation of measures, while adoption rests with the European Parliament and the Council, and operational responsibility for borders and asylum largely remains with member states.
