The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) is an organisation dedicated to monitoring and analysing internal displacement worldwide, that is, the situation of people forced to flee their homes who remain within their own country. It is based in Geneva and is associated with the Norwegian Refugee Council. The IDMC compiles data on displacement triggered by armed conflict, violence, and disasters such as floods, storms, and earthquakes. It publishes the annual Global Report on Internal Displacement and maintains widely cited estimates used by governments, UN agencies, and researchers. Its role is data collection, analysis, and reporting to inform policy and humanitarian response; it does not provide direct assistance or carry operational responsibility for displaced populations.
