C. C. Wei is the chairman and chief executive of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), the world's leading dedicated semiconductor foundry. TSMC's board elected him chairman on 4 June 2024 while he continued as chief executive, after he had served as CEO since 2018. His significance is institutional rather than celebrity-driven: under his leadership TSMC has had to expand leading-edge capacity for artificial-intelligence and high-performance computing demand while managing the geopolitical risk created by concentrating advanced semiconductor production in Taiwan. The role therefore joins industrial execution, capital allocation, technology-road-map delivery and government-facing investment decisions. Wei joined TSMC in 1998 and held a succession of senior operating roles before becoming co-CEO, sole CEO in 2018 and chairman as well as CEO in 2024. The most consequential recent public commitment under his chairmanship was TSMC's additional U.S. investment announced in March 2025. Reuters reported that Wei joined U.S. President Donald Trump to announce an additional $100 billion investment plan, on top of the company's previously announced $65 billion Arizona program. That announcement was a corporate capital-allocation commitment rather than proof that every planned fab or process node had already been delivered. By October 2026, Reuters described TSMC as benefiting from continuing AI-related demand while still spending heavily on capacity.
