By 207–206 BCE, in the received chronology, Qin’s imperial structure had been destroyed in rebellion and civil war. The First Emperor did not live to see it. The collapse is stored as an outcome of the extractive order he left, complex not as a personal last order.
Context
Harsh law, labour, and succession intrigue are the usual mechanisms in Shiji. Han had reason to tell it that way. The speed of collapse is still a welfare-relevant outcome in the received record.
Qin Shi Huang is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
Why it matters
