Context
Studio cubism is a shared 1908–12 labour with Braque stored nearby. Appropriation of African sculptural form is a separate minority-rights row.
Pablo Picasso is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
Why it matters

A studio canvas is not Guernica.

He painted the 1907 canvas. Later museums made it a public school object. African-source controversy is a separate worsening row.
