On 7 April 1917 (25 March Old Style in some counts of the newspaper date; the theses were delivered 4 April N.S.) Pravda published Lenin’s April Theses: no support for the Provisional Government, all power to the soviets, an end to the war, and nationalization of land. He had returned to Petrograd on 16 April N.S. via Germany.

Context

The Petrograd Soviet’s dual power with the Provisional Government is the setting. Kamenev and other Bolsheviks initially opposed the theses. Adoption later in April is a party Fact, not a state decree.

Shared responsibility with other offices is part of the record. Sharing is not a reason to drop this person's documented role, and it is not a reason to treat every later consequence as their handwriting.

Why it matters

Initiating polarization against the February coalition. Direct contribution. High confidence on the text.

What the sources establish

The Pravda text is in Lenin’s Collected Works. Britannica independently dates the theses. They are a political programme, not yet a seizure of ministries.

Later commission estimates are attributed to those commissions.

Established: Lenin published the April Theses in April 1917. Not established: that they already were a coup.

Central files can show that an order was issued; they cannot reconstruct every locality's implementation. Memoir and literary evidence is independent texture, never the sole causal source. Official statistics of the period are treated as claims with known incentives. Later archival openings and museum publications are independent or successor-state records. The contribution is direct where this person signed, chaired, or issued the act, and remains bounded by other offices that had to act. Readers who want the welfare path should open the named driver rather than treating a portrait as the mechanism.
