Tesla’s Colorado Springs experiments overclaim wireless power through the earth

In 1899 Tesla built an experimental station at Colorado Springs to study high-voltage, high-frequency transmission. He treated the work as proof that power could be sent through the earth and atmosphere. In the causal graph this event weakens Energy Security, a driver that strengthens Poverty headcount ratio at $3.00 a day (2021 PPP) (% of population) — an improving welfare path.

In 1899 Tesla built an experimental station at Colorado Springs to study high-voltage, high-frequency transmission. He treated the work as proof that power could be sent through the earth and atmosphere. This Fact stores the overclaim, not the existence of the laboratory.

Context

Large sparks and a magnifying transmitter are real apparatus. Usable city-scale wireless power is not established by the 1899 diary. Unpaid local utility bills and later demolition of the station are part of the independent failure record.

Nikola Tesla is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

Why it matters

High confidence that the 1899 station existed; high that utility-scale wireless power was not delivered.

A spark photograph is not a tariff. Keep Wardenclyffe as the next instrument.

Who was responsible

Contribution type and responsibility level for each recorded actor — not sole-author shorthand.

  • Direct responsibility

    responsibility level 0.7 · verified

He designed and ran the 1899 high-altitude station and published transmission claims. Local power and water bills were not cancelled by the spectacle.

What the sources establish

ETHW records that money and physics later failed the global-power programme.

IEEE/ETHW places Colorado and Long Island in the failed worldwide-power file. Smithsonian’s Wardenclyffe essay independently treats Colorado as the claimed proof that did not become a grid.

Established: Colorado Springs experimental station 1899 and Tesla’s wireless-power claims. Not established: that megawatts were transmitted without wires to a distant city, or that intercepted ‘Mars’ signals were extraterrestrial.
