In 1901 Tesla obtained J.P. Morgan financing and began Wardenclyffe at Shoreham, Long Island, with Stanford White as architect. Morgan’s commercial object was transatlantic wireless telegraphy. Tesla’s published ambition included worldwide power. The tower never became an operating utility.
