UNESCO

UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, is a UN specialized agency headquartered in Paris, France. Founded in 1945, it works to promote international cooperation in education, the sciences, culture, and communication, and is governed by its member states through the General Conference and Executive Board. In education, UNESCO coordinates global goals and monitoring, including work tied to international education targets, and hosts statistical bodies such as the UNESCO Institute for Statistics. It develops norms and conventions, supports literacy and teacher-development programs, and publishes research and global monitoring reports. The organization sets standards and provides guidance, while implementation largely rests with national governments.
