The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) is an independent body of the European Union responsible for investigating and prosecuting crimes affecting the EU's financial interests. Established under enhanced cooperation among participating member states and operational since 2021, it is headquartered in Luxembourg. The EPPO handles offenses such as misuse of EU funds, certain cross-border value-added-tax cases, corruption, and money laundering linked to those offenses. It operates through a central office led by a European Chief Prosecutor and a decentralized network of European delegated prosecutors working within the national legal systems of participating countries. The office brings cases before national courts and coordinates with EU bodies and national authorities, while not all EU member states participate in it.
