The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia—People's Army (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia—Ejército del Pueblo, FARC-EP) was a Marxist–Leninist guerrilla movement founded in the mid-1960s amid Colombia's long internal armed conflict. Operating mainly in rural and remote regions of Colombia, it described itself as a peasant-based insurgency and was for decades the country's largest armed opposition group. The organization was designated a terrorist group by several governments and was associated by investigators with armed clashes, kidnappings, and the financing of operations through illicit economies. Following negotiations in Havana, FARC-EP signed a peace agreement with the Colombian state in 2016, after which most of its members demobilized and a legal political party was formed, while some dissident factions continued armed activity.
