On 27 January 2025 the US Senate confirmed Scott Bessent, of South Carolina, as Secretary of the Treasury by 68 votes to 29 in roll-call vote number 19. The confirmation gave the former hedge fund manager, who founded Key Square Group, control of the department in charge of federal finances, sanctions and international economic policy.
