By January 1937 the Chinese Communist wartime capital at Yan’an was running the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University (Kangda) and related cadre schools. Mao Zedong lectured and set the political line of those schools as the party’s teacher. This is Yan’an consolidation as an education instrument, not the later rectification terror and not a national public-school system.
Context
The Long March remnant needed officers and propagandists. United-front talk with the KMT against Japan was already in motion. Kangda mixed literacy, guerrilla drill, and party doctrine. Many students were already militants. The school did not abolish illiteracy in Shaanxi villages.
Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Mixed effects of Yan’an Kangda and the Resistance-period cadre schools consolidate Mao’s teaching base are separate paths.
Why it matters

What the sources establish
Britannica’s Yan’an article locates the wartime capital and its institutions. Mao’s 1937 philosophical lectures were teaching texts in that setting. Independent histories of Kangda describe a party academy, not a Ministry of Education. No enrolment census is invented.
Established: Yan’an ran Kangda and Mao taught there as the party’s leading voice. Not established: a Shaanxi literacy rate caused uniquely by these lectures.
Shared responsibility is part of Yan’an Kangda and the Resistance-period cadre schools consolidate Mao’s teaching base. Naming Mao Zedong does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1937-01-20 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.
If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.
Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.
