In 1987 UNESCO inscribed the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, including the terracotta pits, on the World Heritage List. The listing is a completed conservation-policy act. It does not open the unexcavated tumulus.

Context

Listing creates duties and a global tourist frame. The tumulus remains largely unexcavated because of conservation risk and mercury reports in Shiji. Both caution and spectacle are real.

Qin Shi Huang is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

Why it matters

Conservation-access path. Medium confidence on welfare size.

Heritage listing can fund conservation and overcrowding. Split later tourism Facts if dated.
