In the 1870s Dostoyevsky entered a documented closeness with Konstantin Pobedonostsev, sending him Karamazov proofs and sharing an autocratic-Orthodox politics. It is not Karamazov as a novel and not the Diary’s antisemitic pages, though the same late bloc. Justice path: a novelist lending prestige to a repressive tutor of the heir.

Context

Mixed: he also argued inner freedom in fiction. That does not delete the procurator’s friendship. Shared with Pobedonostsev. Medium confidence on unique policy effect; high on the correspondence as received.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

Why it matters

It is not a unique Synod decree he signed. He signed none.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Pobedonostsev is not the Inquisitor chapter as a separate lifetime act. Mixed effects of Public closeness to Pobedonostsev and autocratic conservatism in the 1870s are separate paths.

What the sources establish

Britannica at https://www.britannica.com/biography/Fyodor-Dostoyevsky (opens in a new tab) independently marks the late conservative connections. Pushkin House at https://pushkinskijdom.ru/ (opens in a new tab) is the academic neighbourhood of the letters. Goslitmuz is official.

Established as received: 1870s closeness to Pobedonostsev. Not established: a unique joint circular. Distinct from Karamazov’s text. 1873-neighbourhood conservative friendship, proofs of Karamazov to the procurator, not the novel’s serial itself. Official https://www.britannica.com/biography/Fyodor-Dostoyevsky (opens in a new tab) is not independent https://pushkinskijdom.ru/ (opens in a new tab).

Shared responsibility is part of Public closeness to Pobedonostsev and autocratic conservatism in the 1870s. Naming Fyodor Dostoyevsky does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1873-01-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.

That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.
