From 1966 the Akhenaten Temple Project photographed and numbered Karnak talatat from dismantled Aten temples, including scenes of Nefertiti officiating. The programme is a completed documentation instrument. It does not rebuild the temples.

Context

After Amarna, later kings reused the blocks in Karnak pylons. Recovering the scenes is how her public ritual role is known independently of the Berlin bust. That is an evidential gain, not a feminist statute.

Nefertiti is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

Why it matters

Rights-adjacent visibility path for a named woman’s ritual office. Medium confidence.

Visibility in blocks is not a modern equality law.

Egyptian monuments administration and the Met Amarna essay independently describe talatat reuse and documentation.

Established: modern talatat documentation records Nefertiti officiating. Not established: that 1966 photography restored her ancient legal status.
