Great Royal Wife of Akhenaten in the Amarna years of Egypt’s 18th Dynasty, shown officiating to Aten and later identified with an uninscribed painted bust excavated in 1912. The most recent verified record is “Berlin museums refuse Egyptian requests to loan the bust” (1 January 2016), linked to the driver Institutional Corruption.

Editorial assessment (context, not the score)

The dossier is not a feminist saint and not a colonial anecdote. The heaviest documented costs are exclusive Aten policy and Amun erasure in her tenure, post-Amarna name attacks, the 1913 export, racialised and beauty captioning, and ongoing German capture of cultural rent. Those rest on reliefs, excavation diaries, museum holdings, and public campaigns.

The offsets are real: a documented female ritual office, recovered talatat scenes, public museums in Cairo and Berlin, and an Egyptian demand for return. Berlin access and Egyptian dispossession are both true; they are separate paths.

She did not write UNESCO’s Thebes listing or SMB’s conservation memos. Confidence is high on the bust’s 1912–2009 career and on officiating iconography, and only medium on personal authorship of erasures, on mummy identifications, and on any euro figure for ticket income.

Expert analysis

An excerpt; the full analysis opens on request.

Public carriers used here include the Amarna Project excavation history (https://www.amarnaproject.com/ (opens in a new tab)) and Britannica’s Nefertiti identity page (https://www.britannica.com/biography/Nefertiti (opens in a new tab)).

The first fact about Nefertiti is a limit. There is no civil birth register, no signed export, and no cartouche on the Berlin bust. What exists is a Great Royal Wife’s titulary in Aten scenes, a workshop portrait excavated in 1912, and a century of museum and nationalist fights over that object.

The Amarna court chiselled Amun’s public name while she officiated to Aten. A workers’ village housed the labour of a new capital. Later kings recut Amarna names, including hers. In 1913 partage sent the painted bust to Germany under a power imbalance Egyptians still describe as incomplete disclosure. Nazi-era culture racialised the face. Museum captions sold ‘beauty’. Imaging and mummy announcements over-claimed identity. Berlin has refused loans. Ticket rents accrue in Germany.

The gain paths are also dated. She held a visible ritual office unusual in density of female officiating scenes. Talatat documentation recovered those scenes from reused blocks. Amarna Project publication thickened the city’s evidence. Cairo’s 1902 museum showed what Egypt still held. Berlin’s 1924 display and 2009 rebuild created mass public access — in one country. Restitution campaigns put a claim on the record even when the stone did not move. Textbook reproduction made a female royal face canonical, with all the flattening that implies.

What the live score must not say: that she reigned as sole king; that KV35 is her; that Reeves opened a chamber; that Hippocrates or a German chancellor was her colleague; that a conventional 1348-01-01 is a diary. Complex contribution is the honest type on almost every path. Direct contribution is reserved for her own named office and family cult display. Confidence is high on 1912–2009 museum instruments and on the existence of officiating scenes, and medium where conventional BCE years, racial captions, or restitution motives sit between the paper and a welfare indicator.

Related people are Amarna-court and excavation names — Akhenaten, Meritaten, Ankhesenamun, Ay, Horemheb, the sculptor Thutmose, Borchardt, Simon, Hawass — plus Tutankhamun. Those are specific roles and periods, not a pad of EU commissioners.

Mixed effects of the same object — Berlin access versus Egyptian dispossession — are separate paths. A 1912 pit is not a 1924 hanging. A 1924 hanging is not a 2003 restitution speech. A 2015 hidden-chamber paper is not a tomb.

Responsibility language stays boring on purpose. Great Royal Wife is an office. Partage is an administrative allocation. A museum rebuild is a German reconstruction. Nazi-era captioning is a reception policy. None of those sentences requires a novel about her childhood. Where childhood is unknown, it is omitted.

If later radar opens a chamber, that is a new Fact with a new date. Until then, Reeves 2015 remains a statement. If a cartouche is found on the bust, the identification-risk row changes. Until then, the object is uninscribed and catalogued as Nefertiti, both clauses together.

The welfare lenses used here are not a closed list of her ‘themes’. A health series nailed to a museum label without a mechanism is refused. Where confidence is low, the impact path says so.
