In 1933 and neighbouring Harijan essays Gandhi attacked untouchability and still defended a purified varna as hereditary calling rather than as Ambedkar’s annihilation of caste.

Context

Temple-entry and scavenger dignity campaigns can coexist with a theory that keeps inherited occupation. Ambedkar’s 1945 book is the independent indictment of that mix.

Mahatma Gandhi is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
