On 22 January 2024 Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the pran-pratishtha consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, a completed public-religious ceremony on the site of the demolished Babri Masjid after a 2019 Supreme Court title judgment.

Context

The Supreme Court awarded the title in 2019. The temple trust built. Modi performed the consecration as sitting prime minister. He did not sit as the 2019 bench.

The 2019 Supreme Court title judgment is a neighbouring earlier court instrument. The 1992 demolition is a different date and different authors.

The Prime Minister of India is head of the Union Council of Ministers. Parliament writes statutes; the President assents; states and Union ministries implement; the Supreme Court can strike a scheme down. A prime minister can announce demonetisation, drive a bill, and take an oath. He does not write a UNFCCC depositary record, an ISRO telemetry file, or a Supreme Court judgment by himself.

Why it matters

The path is political polarisation and minority rights: a sitting prime minister consecrating a temple on a contested site is a dated majoritarian public act.

What the sources establish

Prime Minister’s Office of India carries the official instrument or communique. Reuters records the same dated act independently.

Established: a 22 January 2024 consecration ceremony in Ayodhya led by the sitting prime minister, recorded by the PMO and by independent wires.

Not established: that the 2019 Court judgment was his authorship, or a unique later communal-violence coefficient from that hour.

The trust built. The 2019 Court wrote the title. He did not demolish the mosque in 1992.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies Prime Minister leads the Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya, not a later speech about Prime Minister leads the Ram temple consecration in Ayodhya.

Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. If a later repeal, stay, or successor decree exists, it needs its own date and its own row. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to He led the consecration as prime minister. The trust built. The 2019 Court wrote the title. He did not demolish the mosque in 1992. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series. The Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha, the President, the Reserve Bank, state governments, the Election Commission, and foreign counterparties share specific files. Allegation is not a completed judgment. A Supreme Court striking-down is not a criminal conviction. A scheme notification is not a unique rupee coefficient. A UN pledge is not a delivered emissions path.
