On 3 February 2015 the National Confederal Committee of the CGT, the union's internal parliament, elected Philippe Martinez, 53, former head of its metalworkers' federation, as secretary-general with 93.4% of the vote. He succeeded Thierry Lepaon, who had resigned in January, and the committee also approved his new leadership team.
