On 15 March 1991 Anwar Ibrahim became Malaysia’s finance minister, succeeding Daim Zainuddin in Mahathir’s Cabinet. Euromoney and Asiamoney later ranked the 1990s tenure. He did not write Bank Negara’s overnight rate. The 1998 sacking is a child.
