From about 1370 Petrarch lived at Arquà in the Euganean Hills, in a house associated with Francesco da Carrara’s Paduan lordship, writing, correcting, and keeping books until his death in July 1374. The modern Casa del Petrarca is a later civic museum used here only as a locator of the site, not as a 1370 act.

Context

A protected cottage with scribes is still elite. Education path is the continuation of copy-and-correction. Carrara clientage is a mixed dependence stored also as worsening inequality. Shared with household copyists. He did not found a village school.

Why it matters

A last library-workshop is an education path of high confidence and modest weight. Museum tickets are later. Mixed Carrara protection is why contribution is complex.

What the sources establish

Padova Cultura’s Casa del Petrarca page at https://padovacultura.padovanet.it/en/musei/casa-del-petrarca (opens in a new tab) locates the Arquà house.
