On June 9, 2025, US Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. removed all 17 sitting members of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the panel that recommends which vaccines are used and covered in the United States. Kennedy said the committee 'has become little more than a rubber stamp for any vaccine' and that 'a clean sweep is needed to re-establish public confidence in vaccine science,' adding that replacements would not be 'ideological anti-vaxxers.' Within days he named new members, several of whom had publicly questioned aspects of COVID-19 vaccination. Major medical organizations including the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics criticized the unprecedented mass removal.
