Context

Data here means a stated standard against flattery and hatred. The books still drip innuendo; that tension is the point, not a reason to drop the claim. Personal-data language on the modern driver is analogical: a public rule for what a record owes the dead.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

Why it matters

A portable anti-flattery preface is a data path. High confidence on the sentences; fulfilment is contested and stored as medium. Later journalistic mottoes are reception.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Mixed effects of The Annals preface claims to write without anger and without zeal, after Histories 1.1’s similar distance-claim are separate paths.

What the sources establish

Latin Library Annals 1.1 and Histories 1.1 are the public Latin. LacusCurtius English faces the same. Britannica treats the claim as his famous profession. Loeb is later. No ethics-board filing exists.

Established: the two prefaces as his. Not established: that every chapter obeys them, or a unique draft date. Conventional Annals-year attachment. Not a 1925 translation year.

Shared responsibility is part of The Annals preface claims to write without anger and without zeal, after Histories 1.1’s similar distance-claim. Naming Tacitus does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 0116-01-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.

That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.

If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.
