On 8 January 2024 Sahra Wagenknecht formally founded the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht – für Vernunft und Gerechtigkeit (BSW) party in Berlin after leaving Die Linke. She said the party was meant to overcome what she called incompetence and arrogance in federal government policy, and that its programme would initially follow the founding manifesto of the association of the same name.
