Identity and office

Mahmoud Abbas has been PA president since 15 January 2005 and PLO chairman since 11 November 2004. As of September 2026 he remains president. Country is Palestine. Hussein al-Sheikh and Mohammed Dahlan remain unresolved. This run does not mint them.

He is not a peace saint. His four-year term ended in January 2009. He still rules by decree. On 14 June 2007 Hamas took Gaza; he dismissed Haniyeh and appointed Salam Fayyad. A dismissal is not every later Gazan death. It is a completed split.

On 29 April 2021 he postponed elections scheduled for 22 May, citing East Jerusalem voting. Thirty-six lists had already registered. On 24 June 2021 Nizar Banat died after a PA Preventive Security arrest. Rights groups called it a killing in custody. Store both 2021 instruments.

Security coordination with Israel is a completed, long-running PA choice. 7 October 2023 is not his order. An Israeli bombardment is not his order.
