Editorial assessment (context, not the score)

The RN record is a net restrictiveness-and-integrity file with real electoral normalisation. The heaviest costs are the 2025 embezzlement conviction, the 2014 Russian loan, and a long immigration-and-Islam agenda. Those rest on a court, a documented loan, and party texts. They are not rumours of a coup, and they are not cancelled by dropping Frexit.

The offsets are official enough to name. Two presidential run-offs under ordinary law, an 89-seat Assembly group in 2022, a 2024 European win in France, dropping euro-exit, and opposition to Article 49.3 on pensions are dated. She has not been president. Treating that as innocence would be padding. Treating every campaign leaflet as a promulgated statute would be the opposite error.

She does not run the Interior ministry and she does not sit on the Constitutional Council. Confidence is high on the 2025 judgment, the 2022 score, and the 2014 loan reporting, and only medium where appeal and parliamentary arithmetic sit between RN demand and a welfare indicator.

Expert analysis

An excerpt; the full analysis opens on request.

The power she actually held

Marine Le Pen has led the French national-right party since 16 January 2011. She has never held the Élysée, Matignon, or Place Beauvau. She has held a European Parliament seat, a large Assembly group, and the power to set the migration terms of French campaigns. Emmanuel Macron defeated her twice. The 9 June 2024 dissolution was his; her list had just won the European election. That split is the first fact. The second is that a conviction, a loan, and a 41 percent run-off still move welfare.

What went wrong, and what is proven

The March 2025 Paris judgment found embezzlement of European Parliament assistant funds and imposed ineligibility. It is a first-instance completed judgment, under appeal, not a final loss of civic rights until higher courts speak. Treating the case as a conspiracy that erases the documents would be padding. Treating it as already definitive at every instance would also be false.

The 2014 Russian loan to the FN is a documented financing act. Later war made it heavier; the loan itself is the event. Immigration-and-veil bills are a long demand file. 2017 campaign included a debate collapse. Softer Russia line before 2022 is a completed foreign-policy stance. None of that is a finding that she fired a missile.

What improved, and how far

Dropping Frexit and euro-exit is a completed programme change that reduced an exit-risk demand. The 2018 rebrand and taking the party in 2011 are party-system acts. 2017 and 2022 run-offs, the 2022 Assembly group, and the 2024 European election are dated electoral facts under ordinary law.

Sharing those elections with voters is not a reason to drop the conviction, and it is not a reason to award her a presidency she lost. Father’s expulsion, a 2012 first-round, 2015 regionals, and a 2024 Bardella bid are dated party-system acts. Nuclear and energy-VAT promises are demand files, not RTE plans. The 2014 European first place and the 2023 riot-week line sit on the polarisation ledger. A health-pass opposition and a pension-49.3 no are civic-space and procedure files, not a finding that RN wrote the Social Security code. Parliament assistants recovery from 2015 is the oversight path that later became the 2025 judgment, recorded as two events so a recovery letter is not inflated into a final cassation.

Shared responsibility, and what the score does not say

Macron, Bardella, Geert Wilders, Jean-Marie Le Pen as predecessor, and the Paris court are not extras. Treating her as author of Union law, or as a bystander on the assistant-funds system and the Russian loan, would be the same error in opposite directions.

The score does not say she already sits in the Élysée. It does not say the 2025 court was a secret politicised murder of a candidacy without documents. It does not convert 41 percent into a statute book. Confidence is high on the judgment text, the 2022 result, and the loan reporting, and only medium where appeal and a hung Assembly sit between RN demand and a welfare indicator.
