On 11 September 2025 the First Panel of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court convicted Jair Bolsonaro 4–1 of coup d’état, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, criminal organisation and related counts, and sentenced him to 27 years and three months. Justice Luiz Fux dissented. Later appeals, PF custody, 2026 house arrest, and a Congress reduction law suspended by Moraes are children.

Context

Seven co-defendants were convicted in the same group. Mauro Cid and Braga Netto remain unresolved. He did not sit as a justice.

8 January 2023 and TSE 30 June 2023 are parents. House arrest 2026 is a child. Keep STF First Panel convicts Bolsonaro 4–1 and sentences him to 27 years 3 months on 2025-09-11 separate from neighbouring 30 October 2022 runoff, 8 January 2023, TSE 30 June 2023, and STF 11 September 2025.

The president of Brazil is head of state and commander-in-chief. A former president can be tried by the STF. He does not sit as every 8 January rioter, as TSE, or as a five-justice panel. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is the live husk; this run does not mint a cleaner twin.

What the sources establish

Agência Brasil recorded the votes.

Agência Brasil carries the official instrument or communique. The New York Times records the same dated act independently.

Established: The First Panel convicted him 4–1 on 11 September 2025 and sentenced him to 27 years 3 months; Fux dissented.

Not established: A unique later served term after the suspended reduction law, or that a five-justice panel is a unique later nullity without a full-court vacatur.

PGR prosecuted. He was the named leader. Fux recorded a dissent.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies STF First Panel convicts Bolsonaro 4–1 and sentences him to 27 years 3 months, not a later speech about STF First Panel convicts Bolsonaro 4–1 and sentences him to 27 years 3 months.

Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. If a later repeal, stay, or successor instrument exists, it needs its own date and its own row. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to STF judged. PGR prosecuted. He was the named leader. Fux recorded a dissent. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series.
