On 10 October 1950 the CCP Central Committee issued the Directive on the Suppression of Counterrevolutionaries, opening a campaign of arrests, public accusations, and executions of people labelled KMT agents, bandits, and reactionaries. Mao’s follow-up comments demanded that killings be ‘sure, accurate, and relentless’ and complained that some localities were too lenient. This is a judicial-destruction campaign, not land title transfer.

Context

The Korean War had begun; the regime feared a fifth column. Public security under Luo Ruiqing ran lists. Local committees added vendettas. Some targets had committed violent crimes; many were labelled by class or past office. Independent courts did not review the lists.

Why it matters

What the sources establish

Mao’s 1950–51 comments on suppression are in Selected Works, volume 5. Britannica independently describes early PRC suppression and the labour-camp system that received survivors. Scholarly estimates of executions exist and disagree; this catalog does not pick a Factrail number.

Established: a 10 October 1950 central directive and Mao’s comments structured a shooting campaign.

Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. Mixed effects of The CCP issues the Directive on the Suppression of Counterrevolutionaries are separate paths.

Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.

The contribution type is direct. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.

Shared responsibility is part of The CCP issues the Directive on the Suppression of Counterrevolutionaries. Naming Mao Zedong does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1950-10-10 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.
