On 16 October 2023 Indonesia’s Constitutional Court held that candidates under 40 could run for president or vice president if they had held elected regional office. The ruling opened the path for 36-year-old Solo mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Jokowi’s son, to join Prabowo’s ticket. Chief Justice Anwar Usman, Jokowi’s brother-in-law, later drew an ethics demotion for sitting the case. Prabowo did not write the judgment.
