From 1538 to 1541 Calvin served the French stranger church in Strasbourg under Martin Bucer, taught, and revised the Institutes. It is not the Geneva Academy of 1559.

Context

MIR and the Cambridge Companion independently date the Strasbourg years. Bucer’s influence on later ordinances is named on the related-person edge.

John Calvin’s documented role is bounded by other offices and collaborators named in the sources below.

Conventional years are 1509–1564. Surviving public files are later museum pages, consistory editions, Meeter Center collections, and encyclopedias. Calvin did not typeset those later pages.

What the sources establish

MIR and the Cambridge Companion independently describe the 1538–41 Strasbourg ministry with Bucer.

Established: Calvin ministered in Strasbourg 1538–41. Not established: that Strasbourg already was Geneva’s 1559 Academy.

John Calvin did not file a later UNESCO form, a later Loeb colophon, or a later museum label as a personal act. A stranger church is not an academy. Keep 1559 as the Genevan college.
