In 1849 Louis Pasteur was established as professor of chemistry at the Faculty of Sciences in Strasbourg, after the agrégation and the tartaric-acid notes. The chair is a teaching and examination office in a French university faculty. It does not yet include Lille’s industrial fermentations or the later École normale attic.
Context
Strasbourg sat on the German-language frontier of the July Monarchy’s university map, then of the Second Republic. A chemistry chair meant lectures, practicals, and patronage correspondence more than a research budget in the later sense. Dumas and other Paris patrons helped place him. Sharing that patronage does not erase the named post. Later nationalist readings of Alsace after 1871 are not back-dated into this appointment. The 1849 chair is not the 1881 anthrax trial.
Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.
Why it matters
Improving education path of modest weight: a public chemistry timetable in a faculty, not a national curriculum statute. Confidence is high on the office, low on enrolment counts not printed in the two locators.
Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. A faculty chair is not an attic flask and not a rabies inoculation. Mixed effects of Pasteur occupies the chemistry chair at the Strasbourg faculty of sciences are separate paths.

What the sources establish
The Académie des sciences portal at https://www.academie-sciences.fr/ (opens in a new tab) identifies Pasteur among later members whose early career ran through Strasbourg teaching. The Science History Institute biography at https://www.sciencehistory.org/education/scientific-biographies/louis-pasteur/ (opens in a new tab) independently dates the Strasbourg chemistry chair and the 1849 marriage without converting them into a vaccine. The two URLs are not the same page.
Established: Pasteur taught chemistry from a Strasbourg faculty chair around 1849. Not established: a unique pupil list, or that Strasbourg already ran a germ-theory clinic. Contribution is recorded as He taught chemistry in a French faculty post. The ministry appointed; students and a faculty shared the building. The impact note is A provincial science chair put crystallography and chemistry into a public teaching timetable, a modest education path. The dated heading stays Pasteur occupies the chemistry chair at the Strasbourg faculty of sciences on 1849-01-01, not a later statue, UNESCO listing, or school film.
Shared responsibility is part of Pasteur occupies the chemistry chair at the Strasbourg faculty of sciences. Naming Louis Pasteur does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1849-01-01 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.
The contribution type is direct. That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.
