In June 2017, during the blockade, Al Udeid Air Base continued as the principal US air-operations hub in the Gulf. Tamim’s government kept the basing relationship.

The US did not join the blockade. He used the base as a security hedge. He did not write a Pentagon order. Later Afghanistan 2021 used the hub.
