In 1533–34 More’s documented contacts with Elizabeth Barton, the Nun of Kent, entered the crown’s treason-politics file though he avoided open endorsement of her prophecies.

Context

Prophecy politics killed Barton in 1534. British History Online calendars and Britannica independently place More at the edge of that file.

Thomas More’s documented role is bounded by other offices and collaborators named in the sources below.

Conventional years are 1478–1535. Surviving public files are later parliamentary biographies, HRP pages, Yale Essential More, and encyclopedias. More did not typeset those later pages. Posthumous canonisation is reception, not a lifetime act.

Why it matters

Justice path as treason-politics risk. High confidence on contact; medium on any one letter’s unique wording.

What the sources establish

British History Online Henrician calendars and Britannica independently describe More’s Nun of Kent contacts.

Established: he had documented dealings around Barton without joining her scaffold party. Not established: that he authored her prophecies.

Thomas More did not file a later UNESCO form, a later Loeb colophon, or a later museum label as a personal act. Barton is not the April 1534 oath refusal twin. Keep the nun file off Tower commitment as a duplicate.
