In 1892 Edison General Electric Company combined with Thomson-Houston to form General Electric. Edison’s name left the surviving company. The merger is a capital instrument, not a lamp.
Context
Thomson-Houston’s AC equipment and Morgan’s banking were decisive. Edison had favoured DC. The combination created a durable manufacturer and reduced named-founder control.
Thomas Edison is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
Why it matters
Industrial-concentration path. High confidence on the merger.
Losing the letterhead is not the same as inventing the holding company. Name the bankers.
