Edison markets an alkaline storage battery for vehicles and industry
Around 1901 Edison introduced a nickel-iron alkaline storage battery aimed at electric vehicles, lighting and industrial standby. In the causal graph this event strengthens Energy Security, a driver that strengthens Poverty headcount ratio at $3.00 a day (2021 PPP) (% of population) — a worsening welfare path.

Around 1901 Edison introduced a nickel-iron alkaline storage battery aimed at electric vehicles, lighting and industrial standby. Durability was the selling point; energy density and cost limited mass adoption versus gasoline.
Context
Electric hansom cabs and delivery wagons existed. Ford’s gasoline Model T later dominated. The battery is a dated product line, not a 21st-century lithium cell.
Thomas Edison is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
Why it matters
High confidence on the product; medium on fleet-scale effects.
A rugged cell is not a climate statute.
Who was responsible
Contribution type and responsibility level for each recorded actor — not sole-author shorthand.
Thomas Edison
PersonDirect responsibility
responsibility level 0.7 · verified
He directed the battery laboratory and company. Earlier lead-acid and later Chemists’ work are not erased.

What the sources establish
NPS laboratory interpretation and IEEE/ETHW independently describe the Edison battery work.
Established: Edison alkaline storage battery commercialised in the early 1900s. Not established: that it displaced petroleum, or that it is the parent of lithium-ion chemistry.
