Impact

Not rated yet: the verified records linked to this person, without a numeric impact.

Editorial assessment (context, not the score)

The record is not a sunflower saint and not a unique author of a 1990 museum. The heaviest documented costs are dismissal, church withdrawal, unsold stock, the Arles quarrel and ear, civic petition and asylum, brother-rent, and a 1890 death whose agency stays medium. The offsets are Borinage care, a peasant-labour file, one sunflower series, Starry Night, and a letter-file. Confidence is high on dated houses and pictures, medium on unique medical effect and on the exact gunshot agency.

The offices he actually held

Van Gogh is a Goupil apprentice, a dismissed evangelical trial preacher, a painter funded by his brother, and a patient of Arles and Saint-Rémy. The Van Gogh Museum chronology at https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en/art-and-stories/vincents-life-1853-1890 (opens in a new tab), the letters edition at https://vangoghletters.org/vg/ (opens in a new tab), Britannica at https://www.britannica.com/biography/Vincent-van-Gogh (opens in a new tab), and the Met Heilbrunn essay at https://www.metmuseum.org/toah/hd/gogh/hd_gogh.htm (opens in a new tab) are independent public files. Orsay and MoMA pages carry later holdings, used as locators of pictures, not as 1888 acts.

The first fact about his power is Theo's rent. The second is a small set of public pictures. The third is a sequence of confinements he did not vote.

What went wrong

Goupil fired him. The consistory withdrew the Borinage mandate. Etten broke. The Sien household sat under class-and-sex stigma. Pictures did not sell. Dealer books stayed opaque. Gauguin left after 23 December 1888. The ear and hospital isolation followed. Neighbours petitioned. As a Dutch foreigner he sat under mayor and police. Saint-Rémy confined him. He died at Auvers on 29 July 1890 after a gunshot; this catalog does not manufacture a unique ballistic proof and does not treat Wheatfield with Crows as a note.

What improved

A shop craft; miners' preaching and sick-care; weavers; Potato Eaters; academy and Paris looking; Japanese prints as method; the Yellow House plan; one sunflower series; sowers; Roulins; Starry Night; Millet copies; Gachet; letters as a working file.

Related people: Theo, Gauguin, Gachet, Roulin, Sien, Millet as predecessor, Pissarro as Paris and Auvers adviser, Bernard, Signac, Mauve.

The 1990 museum is not his hand. Later Loeb, UNESCO, and encyclopedia pages are evidence, not additional acts. Related 2024–2025 news about COP, NATO, or a chancellorship is not a relation.
