On 23 May 1592 Giovanni Mocenigo’s denunciation moved the Venetian Inquisition to arrest Giordano Bruno in Venice, opening a Holy Office process whose articles already mixed theology, cosmology, and morals — not a Copernican-only police action. It is not the 1593 Rome transfer as a second twin if we skip transfer, not the 1599 refusal, and not the 17 February 1600 execution. Mocenigo accused; the Holy Office jailed. Bruno is the captured defendant. It does not claim he ran the court. Infinite worlds sit among Trinity, Christ, and manners in the denunciation tradition; heliocentrism-only is refused.
Context
Venetian Inquisition was a real criminal-religious court. Mocenigo’s first denunciation already lists infinite worlds among many items, with Trinity, Christ, and manners. Bellarmine’s later Roman role is a related-person neighbour of the Roman phase, not this Venetian night. A Copernicus-only 1592 sheet is exactly what the locators do not show. 17 February 1600 is a later killing.
That reading is an impact-path choice, not a property stored on the Fact itself.
Why it matters
Worsening justice path: Holy Office arrest. High confidence on the date. Modest-to-medium weight: he is defendant, not judge, and not the only cause of the court’s existence. Execution remains a later humanitarian harm. Return remains the 1591 door.
Shared responsibility is part of The Venetian Inquisition arrests Bruno on Mocenigo’s denunciation. Naming Giordano Bruno does not delete co-authors, institutions, or later transmitters. The lag from 1592-05-23 to any measured indicator is not treated as zero. Alternative explanations — weather, other armies, later statutes, or independent cultural change — remain live where the sources do not close them.

Mocenigo denounced him; Venetian Holy Office arrested him. Bruno is the defendant, not the judge. Complex victim of a judicial machine, still a speaker of his own propositions.

What the sources establish
Venice State Archive is the documentary city of the arrest. SEP independently dates 23 May 1592 and summarises the mixed theological articles rather than a heliocentrism-only story. Official: https://www.archiviodistatovenezia.beniculturali.it/ (opens in a new tab). Independent: https://plato.stanford.edu/entries/bruno/ (opens in a new tab). Catholic Encyclopedia offers a hostile independent frame. The records establish the arrest and mixed charges. They do not establish a unique later judicial-independence index. A Copernicus-only 1592 sheet would change the complexity claim; 1600 is not this night. A 1592 file showing only Copernicus would change the ‘complex charges’ claim; the locators do not show that thin file.
Established: Bruno was arrested in Venice on 23 May 1592 after Mocenigo’s denunciation, on mixed theological-cosmological articles. Not established: that the arrest was heliocentrism-only, or that 1600 is this night. A Copernicus-only 1592 charge-sheet would change the row’s complexity claim.
If a number is not in the two records named above, it is not supplied here.
Later competitions, monuments, translations, UNESCO listings, museums, and adaptations are not converted into extra lifetime acts.
Confidence is stated on the impact path, not hidden in adjectives. 1592 arrest is not the 1600 execution and not a heliocentrism-only charge-sheet. Mixed effects of The Venetian Inquisition arrests Bruno on Mocenigo’s denunciation are separate paths.
