Bailey’s 1926 remains print the four-fold remedy as a substitute for temple medicine

Cyril Bailey’s 1926 Oxford Epicurus: The Extant Remains prints the tetrapharmakos cluster (gods, death, good, bad) as portable therapy. Treating a four-line charm as enough medicine can delay institutional care when pain is bodily. In the causal graph this event strengthens Infectious-Disease Transmission, a driver that weakens Life expectancy at birth — a worsening welfare path.

Cyril Bailey’s 1926 Oxford Epicurus: The Extant Remains prints the tetrapharmakos cluster (gods, death, good, bad) as portable therapy. The dated book is Oxford’s. Treating a four-line charm as enough medicine can delay institutional care when pain is bodily.

Context

Consolation for fear of death is not a hospital. Later popular handbooks sold the charm as self-help. Split genuine mental-consolation gain onto the Menoeceus row.

Epicurus is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.

Why it matters

A four-line remedy is not a clinic roster. Over-claiming it weakens health-system demand for shared care.
