On 21 August 2026 Pakistani authorities returned Imran Khan to Adiala Jail after a Supreme Court-ordered medical examination that his party said should have kept him at a private hospital until mid-September. He has been in custody since August 2023.
Context
The Court had ordered a transfer toward Shifa International. The government used PIMS, a public hospital, citing security, then sent him back after a fit-to-return finding. PTI called it a violation. A medical fight is not a completed homicide. Three years in Adiala is still a dated custody path.
Al-Qadir and Toshakhana-II are neighbouring sentence rows. Shehbaz’s cabinet discussed the transfer on his row.
A former prime minister in prison does not write National Assembly statutes, IMF board decisions, or GHQ orders. An appeal is not an acquittal. A medical note is not a conviction. A party video is not a completed steal of 2024. A jail hospital corridor is not a cabinet.
Why it matters
The path is health-system access for a high-security prisoner and democratic resilience: a completed return to jail after a contested hospital visit continues a three-year detention of the principal opposition leader.

What the sources establish
Supreme Court of Pakistan carries the official instrument or communique. Reuters records the same dated act independently.
Established: an 21 August 2026 return to Adiala after a court-ordered exam, independently reported, with custody since 2023.
Not established: that he was medically unfit as a completed clinical fact beyond the public-hospital note, or a unique later party-vote coefficient.
The executive chose PIMS and a return. He is the detained subject. PTI disputed the forum.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies Khan is returned to Adiala Jail after a court-ordered hospital examination, not a later speech about Khan is returned to Adiala Jail after a court-ordered hospital examination.
Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. If a later repeal, stay, or successor instrument exists, it needs its own date and its own row. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to The Court ordered access. The executive chose PIMS and a return. He is the detained subject. PTI disputed the forum. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series.
