On 20 May 2024 Lai Ching-te took the oath as 16th-term president of the Republic of China and Hsiao Bi-khim as vice president, the first time one party had opened a third consecutive directly elected presidential term. The Office of the President published the inaugural celebrations and the address ‘Building a democratic, peaceful, and prosperous new Taiwan’. A third term is not a LY majority.
Context
13 January certificate sat as parent. Neighbouring Joint Sword-2024A is later that week as PRC neighbour. He did not sit as the LY. Tsai left office the same morning.
13 January election is the parent. The inaugural Strait line is stored on a neighbouring worsening row. 1 February LY split already sat.
The president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) is head of state under the Additional Articles and commander-in-chief. He does not write a PLA communique, a TSMC capex print, or a Legislative Yuan majority. A National Day address is not a completed interceptor. An inaugural line is not a PLA missile. A special-act press conference is not a passed statute. William Lai is a common English name for the same person; the stored English name is Lai Ching-te.
Why it matters
The path is democratic resilience: a completed peaceful rotation into a third consecutive DPP presidential term.

What the sources establish
Office of the President ROC (Taiwan) carries the official instrument or communique. Focus Taiwan (CNA) records the same dated act independently.
Established: 20 May 2024 oath, independently reported.
Not established: a unique later interceptor coefficient from that Monday, or that the DPP uniquely held the LY.
Tsai left. Hsiao took the vice-presidential oath. The CEC parent certificate sat.. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. That pair identifies Lai is sworn as the 16th-term ROC president, the DPP’s third consecutive term, not a later speech about Lai is sworn as the 16th-term ROC president, the DPP’s third consecutive term.
Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. If a later repeal, stay, or successor instrument exists, it needs its own date and its own row. The contribution described on this Person row is limited to He took the oath. Tsai left. Hsiao took the vice-presidential oath. The CEC parent certificate sat. That limit is the alternative to treating office-holding as authorship of every later series.
