Edison develops the quadruplex telegraph for Western Union traffic
In 1874 Edison’s quadruplex telegraph arrangement allowed two messages in each direction on a single wire. Western Union bought and used the method. In the causal graph this event strengthens Digital Learning Access, a driver that weakens Learning Poverty Rate (low- and middle-income countries) — an improving welfare path.

In 1874 Edison’s quadruplex telegraph arrangement allowed two messages in each direction on a single wire. Western Union bought and used the method. It is an industrial communications instrument, not a public-education statute.
Context
Telegraph capacity was a bottleneck and a rent. Western Union’s purchase is the commercial mechanism. Joseph Stearns’s duplex is a predecessor. Sharing with the company does not erase Edison’s named role in the 1874 files.
Thomas Edison is not the sole author of every later object, law, or museum label that uses the name. Shared work with courts, excavators, printers, spouses, officials, and later states does not erase a documented role, and it does not make an ancient person the signer of a twentieth-century statute.
Why it matters
Knowledge-access path through cheaper text transmission. High confidence on the method and sale.
A telegraph multiplex is not a school. Keep the lag.
