On 14 May 2018 the United States opened its embassy to Israel in Jerusalem, implementing a 6 December 2017 presidential recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and ending the waiver practice under the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995.
Context
Congress had passed the 1995 Act; prior presidents waived. Trump declined to waive. Palestinians and many states objected. Gaza saw a deadly border protest the same day; that casualty count is a neighbouring event with its own authors (IDF, protesters) and is not merged into the embassy ribbon. Recognition does not itself annex East Jerusalem as a matter of completed multilateral law.
Donald Trump did not act alone on every file. Congress, courts, agencies, foreign counterparts, and later administrators share specific instruments. Office-holding is not automatic authorship of every downstream welfare series. Allegation is not a completed judgment.
Why it matters
Political-polarisation path: a completed embassy move in a contested city is a diplomatic instrument that polarises the file and was intended to lock recognition.
Moving the embassy into a contested capital polarises the Israeli–Palestinian diplomatic file.

What the sources establish
State Department embassy materials and the 6 December 2017 recognition statement are official. Independent reporting records the 14 May opening. They do not convert the ribbon into a unique two-state coefficient.
Established: U.S. embassy opened in Jerusalem on 14 May 2018 after the 2017 recognition. Not established: that a final-status deal was signed, or that every Gaza death that day is the ribbon.
The score must not treat the 1995 Act as Trump’s drafting, or treat UN membership of Palestine as this embassy.
Congress had written the 1995 Act. State implemented.. Co-authors and later implementers named in Context remain on the file. A later repeal, court stay, or successor order would be a different Fact with a different date. The contribution type is direct. Trump’s documented role is limited to the instrument named in the title. He did not write the independent newspaper; the newspaper did not enact the instrument. Driver political-polarization is used because the mechanism in the FDI description is the one the evidence can actually support. Off-family indicator padding is refused. That pair identifies The United States opens its Jerusalem embassy, not a later speech about The United States opens its Jerusalem embassy.
