On 22 November 2023, Qatar, Egypt and the United States announced a negotiated humanitarian pause in the Gaza war. The truce took effect on 24 November and, after extensions, ran through 30 November 2023. Hamas released about 105 captives (including 81 Israelis and foreign nationals) and Israel released around 240 Palestinian prisoners, while expanded humanitarian aid entered Gaza. Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani led the mediation, working with CIA Director William Burns and Egyptian officials.
