SAC activates the 2010 People’s Military Service Law

On 10 February 2024 Myanmar’s State Administration Council activated the 2010 People’s Military Service Law, making men and women in stated age bands subject to conscription. On 10 February 2024 Myanmar’s State Administration Council activated the 2010 People’s Military Service Law, making men and women in stated age bands subject to conscription. Junta spokesmen later said intakes would begin after Thingyan. UN Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews called the move a sign of the junta’s weakness and desperation after battlefield setbacks.

Context
