On 11 June 2014 the National Assembly adopted Act XXII of 2014 on the advertising tax, which entered into force that month and levied a steeply progressive rate on media advertising revenue. Independent outlets, including RTL's Hungarian unit, said the rate structure hit them first. The European Commission later opened an investigation. This Fact is that dated tax statute. It is not the 2010 Media Council husk, not the 2018 KESMA exemption, and not a personality. Official text sits in the National Legal Database; Euractiv's contemporaneous Bertelsmann file is the independent record.
