On 12 May 2024 a presidential decree appointed Sergei Shoigu secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and nominated Andrei Belousov as minister of defence.

Context

He had been defence minister since 2012 and through the full-scale invasion. Deputy defence minister Timur Ivanov had been arrested on bribery charges weeks earlier. Moving him to the council kept him next to the president. Nikolai Patrushev, the previous secretary, is named as an unresolved person candidate. This run does not mint a page for him.
